These terms set out the basis on which AJW Carpentry ("AJW", "we", "us") provides quotes and carries out carpentry work in East Devon. By accepting a quote from AJW you agree to these terms.
1. About us
AJW Carpentry is a sole trader business based in Sidmouth, Devon, operated by Alex Williams. Contact: 07876 289763 or ajwilliams1811@outlook.com.
2. Quotes and pricing
- Site surveys and written quotes are provided free of charge with no call-out fee.
- Quotes are valid for 30 days from the date of issue unless stated otherwise in writing.
- Work may be quoted as a fixed price or on a day-rate basis, agreed with you in advance.
- Fixed-price quotes are based on the information available at survey. If the scope changes on request, or if hidden conditions come to light once work begins (for example concealed damage or non-standard structure), we'll pause, explain the impact and agree any variation with you in writing before continuing.
3. Booking and scheduling
Once you accept a quote in writing (email or text is fine), we'll book the work into the schedule, typically within a month, depending on job size and current commitments. Start dates are indicative until confirmed close to the job.
4. Payment
- Accepted payment methods: bank transfer or cash. There is no card machine on site.
- Any interim or staged payment arrangement (for example to cover the cost of significant material orders) will be agreed with you directly in writing before work starts. No standard deposit structure is published.
- Final invoices are payable within 7 days of completion unless otherwise agreed.
- Overdue invoices may accrue interest at the statutory rate under the Late Payment of Commercial Debts (Interest) Act 1998.
5. Materials: supply and fit or fit only
AJW offers both supply-and-fit and fit-only options. Where you supply your own materials, please note:
- You are responsible for ensuring materials are correctly specified, undamaged and available on the agreed start date.
- The workmanship guarantee (below) does not apply where materials are customer-supplied.
- If materials prove unfit for the job, we will pause and discuss options before continuing.
6. 5-Year Workmanship Guarantee
AJW Carpentry provides a 5-year workmanship guarantee, subject to the following:
- The guarantee applies only to full installation jobs completed from start to finish by AJW Carpentry, where all materials are supplied by AJW Carpentry.
- The guarantee does not apply to:
- Repair or remedial work
- Jobs where materials are supplied by the customer
- Damage caused by misuse, neglect, weather beyond reasonable expectation, or third-party alterations after completion
- If our workmanship fails on a qualifying installation during the guarantee period, we will return and put it right at no additional labour cost.
- The guarantee runs from the date of job completion and is offered to the original customer at the original installation address.

7. Manufacturer warranties
Materials such as doors, ironmongery, hinges and locking mechanisms carry their own manufacturer warranties. Any claim against a manufacturer warranty is handled between you and the manufacturer, though AJW will assist where reasonable.
8. Insurance
AJW Carpentry holds public liability insurance up to £2,000,000. Proof of cover is available on request.
9. Access, site conditions and safety
- You are responsible for providing safe and reasonable access to the work area on the agreed dates.
- Please move fragile items, valuables and pets clear of the work area before we arrive.
- We use dust sheets and clean up at the end of each day, but some dust and disruption is inevitable with carpentry work.
10. Cancellations and delays
- If you need to cancel or reschedule, please give as much notice as possible. Materials already ordered specifically for your job may be non-refundable and payable in full.
- We reserve the right to reschedule due to illness, accident, extreme weather or events outside our reasonable control, and will give you the earliest possible new date.
11. Complaints
If something isn't right, please tell us as soon as possible. In the first instance, contact Alex on 07876 289763 or ajwilliams1811@outlook.com. We aim to acknowledge complaints within 3 working days and resolve them within 30 days.
12. Consumer rights
Nothing in these terms limits your statutory rights as a consumer under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 or other applicable UK law.
13. Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and any dispute is subject to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The version that applies to your job is the one in force on the date you accepted your quote.
